—A Note on the Performance of Shanghai Theatre Academy at Scottish Confucius Institute for Business and Communication
On the 26th September 2015, a troupe from Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) sent by Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban visited Heriot-watt University and presented a wonderful performance on Chinese traditional opera and folk music for local people of Edinburgh. Mr. Pan Xinchun, the Consul General of Chinese Consulate General in Edinburgh attended the event and delivered a gripping speech. At the beginning of the performance, Professor Claudia Angelelli, the Director of the Scottish Confucius Institute for Business and Communication (SCIBC) gave a welcome speech and then Professor Wen Xiuying, the Chinese Director of Confucius Institute extended a thank-you speech. Approximately 300 people watched it including local citizen, university students and students from China.
The performance featured traditional Chinese arts, including Kunqu, Peking Opera and folk music, etc., which received rounds of applauses from the audience. At the end of the performance, some audience came onto the stage and practised a few movements of Peking Opera, winning applauses. After the performance, the audience tasted mooncake specially prepared by SCIBC for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
This performance won success with the great help of Chinese Consulate General in Edinburgh and the careful preparation of Scottish Confucius Institute for Business and Communication. The following evening, the troupe of STA and the staff of SCIBC were warmly received by the Chinese Consulate General in Edinburgh for a Mid-Autumn Day reception.
